Amanzi’s range of point of entry Grit Removal Filters is sourced from the German company Judo Wasseraufbereitung GmbH, an International industry leader with over 80 years of experience in water treatment. One of its many lines are the ranges of back washable filters (both manual and automatic) to remove suspended solids (such as grit, sand and other abrasive particles carried in our municipal water supply) from the water entering premises and so protect the valuable piping infrastructure, fixtures and fittings.
Since 1962, Judo have been pioneering the field of backwash sediment protection filtration worldwide bringing to the world a cleaning system that actually suctions contaminants off not only the sieve surface but deep within the mesh structure to ensure a thorough cleaning without having to open the unit and manually scrub the filter mechanism, an often occurrence with many of the flush out systems available today (in fact many of the manufacturers of flush out systems recommend that their units are decommissioned every 6 months and have their sieves replaced)
Dependant of which of the three ranges of sediment filters you look at the cleaning mechanisms employ either dual cleaning channels which travels round the sieve (Easy Filt Range), triple cleaning channels which travels round the sieve (Long life Ranges) or the advanced point of rotation system (introduced in 1985, this operates with three offset arms with smaller suction points which gives a far superior suction strength – see below)

Most of the units come with optional configurations to best suit your needs, be it either manual, automatic via a time basis or automatic via a time & pressure differential basis. The standard filtration level is set at 100 micron (0.1mmx0.1mm) but can be ordered finer if required. The mesh is manufactured from stainless steel and is coated with nano-silver layer as an anti-bacterial protection (On the Premium class models.)
The Premium class’s filtration process, using Judo’s patented “Point Rotation” principle is uncomplicated, yet highly efficient and the unit can be happily maintained by a maintenance official of the building during his daily rounds (or most units are available in automatic options). Most importantly, the water flow does not have to be closed off or even interrupted during the cleaning cycles.
The mains water enters the unit through the specially provided bayonet fitting (smaller units up to 50mm, flanged units are available up to 200mm) and through the stone catcher (trapping objects 3mm3 or larger) & into the filter chamber. This chamber has a transparent sight bell through which you can monitor the degree of fouling and decide whether to start the cleaning cycle. The water, minus the suspended solids trapped on the screen then moves through the filter, and back out of the bayonet fitting and through to the building’s interior water network.
When the manual unit is required to be cleaned, the operator rotates the top hand wheel in an anti-clockwise direction until it reaches its limit. This opens a valve which causes a vacuum in the off-set cleaning arms, and as they travel around the mesh, they suck the contaminants of the screen – much like a vacuum cleaner over a carpet – and through to waste. This waste water can be collected in a bucket, or piped outside to a garden area to minimise wastage. The hand wheel is then turned clockwise back to its starting position to close the valve. The unit does not need to be opened to be cleaned, therefore allowing no air into the system, so it does not requiring bleeding of the system or vent valves.

- As these ranges do not require to be dismantled to clean the filtering medium, the ingress of air into the system is neutralised, meaning that the following water system does not need to be bled to purge any air in the system which could lead to harmful water hammer, as well as reducing water wastage.
